The C6-generation Audi RS6 was a true supercar underneath an unassuming estate body style when it arrived back in 2008. 571bhp from a V10 engine related to the Lamborghini Gallardo made it the fast wagon to beat.

But the automotive world doesn’t stand still. Now hybrid powertrains and turbocharged V8 engines promise even more power. So can a little fettling restore the balance?

We took a modified RS6 to the drag strip to face off with a Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo e-Hybrid and Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate to see if the older generation can teach the newcomers a thing or two.

That RS6 was woefully slow (slower than standard!) and woefully driven.

It's woefully "tuned" too. It takes very little to get the V10 up to 750-800ps and 1050-1100Nm.

Agree - I'm not sure the 'one hand on the middle of the wheel' is a technique they teach for the FIA Super Licence.....  would just take a small bump in the runway to cause it to veer into the other cars at high speed and therefore mean they would stop doing these  (and I do quite like them!)

Would do 10.5 to 100 mph and that would be a very cheap option. If the RS6 does make that power the transmission must be knackered.

There is clearly something epically wrong with the RS6 for it to be so much slower than a standard RS6 was.

There is no point being polite and saying you were impressed - it just makes it worse.

Audi wins, hands-down, for looks.
