Five-seat SUV gets Vauxhall’s latest in car technology; it shares underpinnings with the Peugeot 3008

The Vauxhall Grandland X is on sale priced from £22,310, making it £185 cheaper than the Peugeot 3008 with which it shares underpinnings.

The new five-seat SUV sits above the Mokka X and Crossland X in Vauxhall’s line-up. Like the related 3008 and Citroën C5 Aircross – which was revealed in April also shares the same structure - it competes with the Seat Ateca and Nissan Qashqai.

The Grandland X is powered by a selection of turbocharged engines from the PSA Group and General Motors ranges. The entry-level variant has a 1.2-litre 128bhp petrol engine, with a 1.6-litre diesel the other engine option at launch, priced from £23,840. Front-wheel drive is standard.

The car’s exterior design shares some design features with the Crossland X, including similar lights, but the car’s larger size - it’s 200mm longer - and more conventional SUV shape adds to its road presence and creates a more aggressive stance.

Inside, the dashboard and centrally mounted touchscreen will be familiar from existing Vauxhalls, as will some of the kit on the tech list, including wireless smartphone charging, the Onstar connectivity system and a powered tailgate. A heated steering wheel and heated seats will likely be among the most popular options.

The boot can swallow 514 litres of luggage with the seats up and 1,652 litres with them down. This just beats the Seat Ateca and comfortably trumps the Nissan Qashqai, making the Grandland X one of the class’s most spacious offerings.

Vauxhall has gifted the Grandland X with its latest driver assist tech. The list includes adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, park assist and a driver drowsiness detector.

Making up for lost time

Another day, another new Vauxhall launch. This is a smart looking, neatly presented product. That's 3 CUV/SUV-type products from Vauxhall in fairly quick succession, they're really gunning for Nissan.
