The S4 cabriolet is powered by the same 340bhp 4.2-litre V8 as the saloon and estate S4 and will be priced at just under £40,000. It makes its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The extra weight of the roof mechanism means the 0-62mph time rises slightly compared with the saloon, from 5.6 to 5.9 seconds, but the top speed is still an electronically limited 155mph.
Audi will open the order book early next year on its first four-wheel-drive soft-top, with both six-speed manual and Tiptronic-style transmission on offer.
