Caterham's core range of Seven sports cars has been cut down to five, with three new models joining the entry-level 160 and the top-end 620R

Caterham has expanded its Caterham Seven sports car line-up in the UK with new 270, 360 and 420-branded models.

The British manufacturer says the new additions “adhere to Caterham’s brand mantra of delivering accessible fun through the traditional Caterham minimalistic, lightweight approach to sports car engineering”.

The introduction of the cars, which are already on sale, also sees Caterham’s Seven range rationalised to five models, with the new models joining the entry-level 80bhp 160, which costs from £18,995, and the top-spec 310bhp 620R, which is priced at £49,995.

The 270, which replaces the current Roadsport 140 and Supersport models, is powered by a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine with 135bhp. It can reach 62mph in 5.0sec and has a top speed of 122mph. It costs £22,995.

Sitting in the middle of the range is the 360, which is powered by the same 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine as Caterham’s R300 race car range. Power is rated at 180bhp and it is able to reach 62mph in 4.8sec. Its top speed is 130mph. The Seven 360 costs £26,995 and replaces the current Roadsport 175 and Supersport R models.

The last new addition to the range is the Seven 420, which gets 210bhp from its 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine. The model costs £29,995, and is capable of reaching 62mph in 4.0 seconds, with a top speed of 136mph. The 420 replaces the current Superlight R400.

As well as adding new models to its range, Caterham has also revealed new ’S’ and ‘R’ packages, which can be added to its entire line-up.

The S pack is geared towards more casual drivers, and includes a road suspension set-up, 14in alloy wheels, a carpeted interior, heater, a hood with side screens, a windscreen and black leather seats.

Designed more for track enthusiasts, the R package comes with extras including a limited-slip differential, sports suspension, four-point racing harnesses, unique instruments, larger 15in alloy wheels and composite race seats. Caterham says customers choosing the R package will also “benefit from an upgraded suspension geometry set-up to ensure the ultimate in race track handling".

Caterham Cars boss Graham Macdonald said the company now has a “Seven for everyone”. He said: “The Caterham brand has always had simplicity at its heart. While the pure thrill of driving remains at the core of our iconic Seven design, the experience of selecting and buying a Caterham is one that now reflects the brand’s values of effortlessness and intuition.”
